ABOUT ME

Rianna Burgess is a recent graduate from the University of Alberta, holding two Bachelor’s degrees in music and education, with a specialization in secondary music. Her musical journey began at age six with piano lessons, eventually leading her to achieve grade 8 RCM certificates in piano and theory. Rianna first began playing the oboe in her grade 7 band class and immediately fell in love. She has now distinguished herself as the principal oboist for various ensembles, including the University of Alberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the University of Alberta Symphonic Orchestra, the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, and the River City Chamber Orchestra. She has also been a featured soloist with the River City Chamber Orchestra in 2021 and the Wye String Ensemble in 2023. She has received numerous scholarships and awards including 1st place for Senior Woodwinds at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival and 2nd place for Senior Woodwinds at the Canada West Performing Arts Festival. Her teachers on the oboe have included Lidia Khaner and Beth Levia. In 2024, Rianna was accepted as the Edmonton Youth Orchestra’s conducting intern and had the privilege of working under Mr. Michael Massey. Rianna has a deep commitment to making music accessible for all as she strongly believes in the transformative power of music education.
